Resource centre

At Cavendish Road SHS, the Resource Centre is a fundamental part of the teaching and learning process. The Resource Centre has two main roles, to promote reading for pleasure and to support teachers and students with research-based learning across the curriculum.

Resource Centre Mission Statement

The Cavendish Road SHS Resource Centre engages with our community, training capable researchers, critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and ethical participants in the contemporary information landscape by providing quality resources for both academic and personal endeavours and by collaborating with faculty members to enhance instruction.

Our Services

Dedicated staff in the Resource Centre help students develop their capacity to locate, evaluate, and apply information. Classes frequently visit the Resource Centre to conduct research or seek out materials for pleasure reading. Students also use the library for individual and group study. The Resource Centre’s mission is to train excellent student researchers, provide high-quality library services, and develop collections that support academics and independent reading.

The Resource Centre is popular with students who enjoy its facilities. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment for students to learn, explore, communicate, interact and relax. Our Resource Centre contains a number of flexible learning spaces and facilities which include two Ideas Labs with data projectors, interactive whiteboards, and writable tables and walls; a robotics classroom lab; and two open teaching spaces. Other facilities available to staff and students include a photocopier, high quality colour printer and scanner.

The Resource Centre has a comprehensive collection of over 10,000 up-to-date print resources. Access to these resources is provided through a fully automated library management system (Infiniti) comprising the library catalogue, which can be accessed by every student. Students can access the library catalogue and the EQ eBook collection online 24 hours a day. Though we have a 3-week borrowing period, loan conditions are flexible with students being able to borrow a greater number of resources concurrently as they move through the grades.

Opening Hours

The Resource Centre is available to students for personal and group study during all opening hours. As the Resource Centre is a shared space we ask that all users conduct themselves in a manner that does not impact on other patrons. Use may be restricted on some days due to hosting school events.  Hours may vary upon availability of staff.
