At Cavendish Road State High School, learning is central to everything we do, with high expectations and a commitment to academic excellence. A teaching and learning framework called the Art and Science of Teaching underpins the curriculum and provides students, parents and teachers with a common language in relation to thinking and learning.
In 2016, the Australian Curriculum will continue to be implemented in English, Maths, Science, History and Geography. The curriculum for the remaining Key Learning Areas will be implemented progressively over the next few years.
Year 8 students study a set curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health & Physical Education, a Language (Japanese or German), and studies from The Arts and Technology.
Year 9 students have a mandated study of English, Mathematics, Science, History and Health & Physical Education. Languages is a non-compulsory subject but students electing to study a language must study it for the full year. A number of elective studies are also available.
Year 10 students have a mandated study of English, Mathematics, Science and History. Students select from a range of electives following a parent evening in August for Year 9.
Students in the senior phase of learning will work towards achieving a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Year 11 and Year 12 students will study an English and a Mathematics subject. Students must study six subjects or the equivalent. Opportunities may be available for students to be involved in University subjects, TAFE studies, traineeships and apprenticeships.
