Netball Excellence Program

  • Are you a talented netballer?
  • Would you like to develop the skills to play at an elite level?
  • Do you just love the game and want more of it?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, then.....

At Cavendish Road State High School we can develop your netball skills and education simultaneously through our fully accredited Netball Centre of Excellence.

To provide students with the opportunity to develop their netball potential to the highest level while maintaining their performance in academic studies.
To provide students with quality coaching and feedback within the school environment.

How does the program work?

The program is a Netball Queensland supported initiative to allow students greater exposure to elite training methods and techniques.

Students select netball as an elective subject (like HPE) and hence have five lessons per week.

In these five lessons the students have two theory and three practical lessons.

In theory, students study topics ranging from rules, nutrition for elite athletes, body systems, injury prevention and management, careers in sport and success without drugs, coaching level 0 and umpiring.

Practical sessions incorporate the use of the latest training techniques being used in netball. Sessions are conducted on the court, indoors and in the school’s gym/weights room.

In addition, special training clinics and camps are organised to gain access to coaches whilst maintaining academic continuity.

Who takes the program?

The program is coordinated by Jacqui Russell in conjunction with Netball Queensland.

Development coaches and personnel visit the school and all players are exposed to high quality coaches.

In addition to coaches the players will listen to a range of guest speakers who will speak on a variety of topics, for example: motivation, life as an elite athlete, nutrition, etc.

The school is located on the corner of Cavendish Road and Holland Road and is on a number of bus routes which link to Garden City, the City and Coorparoo railway station.

Students who have long distances to travel are permitted leave passes which may allow the student to arrive late or leave early in order to make connecting buses and not arrive home too late.
