Football Academy

Aims of the Football Academy

The Football Academy aims to provide students with unparalleled opportunities to develop their football ability to the ‘elite’ level. In order to do so we provide superior football coaching and targeted support for balancing academic, sporting and career goals.

How the Academy works

The Football Academy, which is endorsed and supported by Football Queensland, is conducted as a school subject under the umbrella of Health and Physical Education. While addressing general health and personal development outcomes, the curriculum also focuses upon specific Football related elements such as nutrition for the athlete, sports psychology, fitness, injury management and prevention, goal setting, careers in sport, coaching (Junior Coaching Licence) and refereeing (Laws of the Game).

Football conditioning, technical and tactical skills are sequentially developed over the five year course and are linked closely to the ‘Building Blocks’ phases of the Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) National Curriculum. Accordingly, the Football focus for each year is -

  • Year 11 & 12 – ‘ELITE’: Game and Performance Training.
  • Year 9 & 10 – ‘ADVANCED’: Skill Acquisition and Game Training.
  • Year 8 – ‘INTERMEDIATE’: Skill Acquisition.

In order to ensure that players have the best opportunity to perform at the elite level, the Academy provides personal support in a number of areas.  This includes academic assistance, individualised skill and conditioning plans, specialist speed and goal keeper coaching and on site physiotherapy assessment and treatment.
