Wednesday 29 April 2009 witnessed the first ever use of floodlights at Cav Road when our 1st XIII rugby league team played Sunnybank State High School.
School Principal Alan Sampson said the project was in partnership with Easts Rugby League Club with the Tigers paying $75 000 for the four light towers. It also involves teams from Easts juniors gaining access to train, a further financial contribution to the school for oval maintenance and playing jerseys and involvement of Easts coaching staff with the school’s excellence program.
“Very few schools have lights and even fewer have the overall quality and depth of the remainder of the training equipment and access to specialist staff,” said Mr Sampson. “It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to introducing our girls and boys to elite competition and providing the necessary resources for enjoyment and success.”
Captain Sean Halligan said the lights were the equal of anything he had played under and was grateful for the support that Easts had provided as well as those students and staff who cheered on his team.
